How was Dalgona Candy Discovered?
Dalgona candy is believed to have evolved as a popular snack among the relatively low-income population during the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. During that time, sweet treats such as sugar or cookies were expensive and not easily accessible to the general public. As a result, the lower-income population began making their own snacks using affordable ingredients like rice and sugar. Over time, this led to the creation of Dalgona candy.
To make Dalgona candy:
1.In a pot, combine sugar and baking soda. The typical ratio is 1 cup of sugar to 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
2.Heat the pot over medium heat, and the sugar will start to melt. Stir the mixture as the sugar melts, and it will turn into a transparent color and start to bubble.
3.Continue stirring until the mixture forms a lot of bubbles. Make sure the sugar is fully melted.
4.Lightly stir the melted sugar to incorporate the baking soda evenly. The baking soda will react and cause the mixture to foam up and turn into a light brown color.
5.Pour the mixture onto a flat surface.
6.Flatten the mixture using a spatula or a mold to create a flat shape.
